#5406 1962

David Buckingham’s restored road frame.

I purchased the frame from a house clearance company who found it at the back of a garage/workshop when clearing a property for a client. It was just the bare frame and forks with a stronglight square taper bottom bracket and a left hand crank with stripped extraction threads which was probably why it was still with the frame ! The axle had an 8mm thread for the retaining bolt rather than the usual 10mm so I think this was a model 57 chainset and would have been available in 1962 so was probably original. I will build up the bike with 1960’s / 1970’s components using Campagnolo gears and large flange hubs on 27 x 1 1/4 rims. I will fit period full mudguards to use the bike for day rides and Sunday club runs. The frame had the original paint and transfers and was a dark orange but most of the paint was missing from the chain stays and was in generally poor condition hence the decision to renovate to preserve the bike for the next 58 years.
