1959 #5172 Track

Complete 1950’s refurbished Carpenter track bike, for sale (eBay) by ‘ekroberts’ Sept 2023.

Complete with Chater Lea inch pitch chainset, sprocket and chain. Pedals are Chater Lea sprints with GB toe clips and Brooks toe straps and shoe protectors.

Bars are track drop steel possibly Reynolds and the limp dick stem gives a good position for me. New rubber track grips fitted but are similar to Dover, dare or constrictor grips. Some sweat rust marks on bars from velodrome use.

Comes with Brooks champion sprinter saddle, seat clamp and Reynolds seatpost and Brooks saddle support.

Harden hubs on Conloy rims with tied and soldered spokes, please note that the hubs have been serviced with new original harden bearings. The tubs are original to the wheels but need replaced but one does hold air. Please note I can’t find the track-cog lock-ring so you’ll need to add one.

22.5” c-to-t and 22” top tube, axle stand over height 10. 5” (track clearance height for velodromes)

The frame was repainted in the 90’s but I recently added the decals waterslide so as close to original your likely to get.

The chrome is in fair condition and it’s not like 50’s chrome. Bob Jackson’s did the refurbishment so I trust all is good.

The frame has track forks but has been drilled for front brake, this is normal for 50’s track frames as they were also used by owners for time trials and unbelievably commuting.
